Wonder Woman film made by Patty Jenkins is the first time the character of Diana Prince was appointed in the big screen movie. The main character is played by Gal Gadot, who also appears at least in two other films in the same franchise.
Before the Wonder Woman version of Gal Gadot, Diana or Wonder Woman characters have been lifted to an American television series and dozens of animations. There are also some project plans for the television series. Two of them are only up to the pilot movie stage.
Many actresses have been involved for the role of William Moulton Marston's super hero. There are live-action live actors, some are just as voice acts or animated character models. Here are at least four actresses of the live-action version before Gal Gadot.
1. Ellie Wood Walker and Linda Harrison
Both actresses were cast for the 1967 television movie project titled Who's Afraid of Diana Prince. Ellie became Diana and Linda became Wonder Woman. There is no island of Themyscira and Queen Hippolyta.
William Dozier, producer of Batman and Green Hornet TV series, wants to lift another hero to a 90-minute movie, Wonder Woman. According to Wonderland Site records, the plan failed because the script did not match expectations. While Ellie and Linda have been playing in a five-minute sample show.
2. Cathy Lee Crosby
The actress and former tennis athlete plays Diana in a 1974 Wonder Woman television movie. The 78-minute movie is intended as a consideration for ABC TV channel to make it serial.
However, it does not proceed and reaps a lot of negative responses due to quality issues. The film became Warner Bros.'s first project for Diana's character.
Vincent McEveety became director and the script was written by John DF Black. Kaz Garas plays Steve Trevor and Charlene Holt as Hippolyta. The three-minute cut of this movie is uploaded by the WarnerArchive channel and is publicly accessible.
3. Lynda Carter
Lynda Carter became the most successful actress in the role of Wonder Woman. He appeared in one sample film (1975) and 59 episodes of the TV series (1976-1979). Everything is aired on ABC and CBS America channels. The DVD version has also been released by Warner Home Studio.
According to Wonderland Site records, the studios intend to look for an actress who can make people forget about the two previous projects. Popular actress Joanna Cassidy was glimpsed, but the choice fell on Lynda, a newcomer. The story of this series is made close to the comic version.
The production was performed with The Douglas Cramer Company and Bruce Lansbury Productions. Lyle Waggoner became Steve Trevor. While Beatrice Colen became Etta Candy, Steve's secretary.
